Music instills
self-discipline. It incorporates both math and reading. Being and art,
music stimulates creativity, logic, order, imagination, and evokes
emotion. A musician cannot function on playing notes on a printed page
alone, but has to use all senses to perform music with spirit.
My teaching philosophy
uses standard teaching methods along with my own personal pedagogy.
Sight reading, ear training, individualized assessment, and
performance techniques are essential in order to be a competent
musician. Most importantly, a fun atmosphere is essential for young
students to enjoy music.
Performance
Opportunities
Throughout the year,
there are many chances to perform in a public setting. These
include group studio lessons and formal recitals. Recitals
happen twice a year at the end of each academic semester. These
gatherings are meant to be fun and relaxed while gaining performing
experience in front of other musicians, family, and friends.
Best of all, it also motivates practicing!
Scheduling
Lessons are weekly,
usually running 30-40 minutes. Times are arranged in the
afternoon/evenings on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Lessons are taught in a variety of locations, including Holy Cross
Catholic Church in Champaign. More locations will be
announced soon.
Summer
Lessons
Lessons
are taught in the summer upon request. Summer lessons are a more
relaxed environment. It is important for new students to continue
lessons year round so that the pupil will not lose any information
taught during the school year.
